Rob Norton

Nelson / Cranbrook

Real estate valuation has been Rob’s career since 2009, and he has built experience across both the public and private sectors. Rob began his career with BC Assessment, holding appraisal and leadership roles in its Victoria, Nelson, and Cranbrook offices and contributing to residential and commercial valuation work throughout Vancouver, the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and the Kootenays. He later moved into private practice before establishing Norton Appraisals & Consulting Inc. to provide independent, responsive appraisal and consulting services throughout British Columbia’s Southern Interior.

Today, Rob leads a growing team serving clients across the Kootenays, Boundary region, and eastern Okanagan. Over his career, he has completed, reviewed, and signed thousands of appraisal reports involving everything from single-family homes and farms to commercial, industrial, multi-family, development, institutional, and investment properties. The firm’s clients include financial institutions, municipalities, law firms, businesses, developers, and private property owners who rely on independent, well-supported valuation advice.

Rob is a designated AACI, P.App. member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria and a Post Graduate Certificate in Valuation from the University of British Columbia. He has also completed UBC’s Reserve Fund Planning Program. His professional experience includes providing expert witness testimony before review panels, appeal boards, tribunals, and the courts.

Rob believes the best appraisals come from combining local market knowledge with sound analysis and continual investment in technology. The Norton Appraisals team maintains one of the region’s most comprehensive databases of verified sales, leases, rental information, and market evidence, integrated with specialized appraisal software, linked databases, proprietary Excel valuation workbooks, and modern report writing systems. This connected workflow improves consistency, quality, and efficiency, allowing the team to spend more time where it matters most: understanding the market and delivering reliable valuation advice.

Outside of work, Rob can usually be found in the mountains, on a golf course, or spending time outdoors with his wife and two daughters. Living and working in the Kootenays has given him a deep appreciation for the communities the firm serves, and he is proud to help clients make informed real estate decisions throughout the region.
